This couple desired a home immersed in the woods and the design was optimized for two people living on a single level. The gathering room, deck, porch, master bedroom and private deck all project beyond the main volume to offer an unconfined sense of being in the landscape. The edges of these living spaces are substantially transparent. The front maintains privacy with solid surfaces punctuated by small openings, as the glass foyer identifies the entrance. A guest suite, with interior and exterior access, occupies the lower level. The structure represents a creative pragmatism. Careful manipulation of a conventional truss system yielded a variety of distinct interior spaces and a series of generous exterior eaves to shelter decks and the entrance. Fabrication and construction remained economical and conventional.
